Investigations into Goran Vesić

Former Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure Goran Vesić is facing multiple legal and financial investigations.

In August 2026, the Anti-Corruption Agency launched an extraordinary inspection of Vesić’s assets following suspicions of inaccurate reporting regarding his income and property. This follows his involvement in the November 2024 Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse, which caused 16 deaths. Additionally, the Prosecution for Organized Crime is investigating Vesić and 13 others for alleged financial malfeasance related to the Novi Sad-Kelebija railway reconstruction project, which reportedly caused $115 million in damages to the state budget.

By September 2026, Vesić was questioned by the Prosecution for Organized Crime regarding the ‘Generalštab’ case. This investigation concerns a Memorandum of Understanding and an Investment Agreement signed by Vesić in 2022 and 2024 with companies linked to Jared Kushner. The project aimed to revitalize the Generalštab complex by removing cultural heritage protections to allow for commercial development. Although Kushner’s company temporarily withdrew from the project in December 2025, Serbia faces potential damages of up to 50 million euros if legal action is pursued. Vesić has maintained his innocence, stating he acted under the authority of the Serbian Government.
