Goran Vesić questioned in Serbian Generalštab investigation

Former Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure Goran Vesić was questioned by the Prosecution for Organized Crime regarding the ‘Generalštab’ case. Vesić appeared as a citizen rather than a suspect following a request from prosecutors after previous attempts by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to interview him were unsuccessful.

The investigation centers on a Memorandum of Understanding and an Investment Agreement signed by Vesić in 2022 and 2024 with companies linked to Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump. These agreements aimed to revitalize the Generalštab complex, a site damaged during the 1999 NATO bombing. The proposed project involved removing the site's cultural heritage protection to allow for the construction of hotels, residential, and commercial spaces, with the American partner holding a 77.5 percent stake.

While Kushner’s company temporarily withdrew from the project in December 2025, legal risks remain. Under the terms of the agreement, Serbia could face damages of up to 50 million euros if the company pursues legal action. Vesić has maintained his innocence, stating he signed the documents based on the authority granted by the Serbian Government.
