Gorbeia's San Ignacio festival and Elizondo's final Santioak celebrations

On July 31, a mass and fair were held at the high‑altitude shrine of San Ignacio in the Gorbeia Natural Park, attracting hundreds of pilgrims and locals from Bizkaia and Álava. The event featured a traditional outdoor mass, a procession, and a market of regional foods and products organized by the refuge Elorria and local producers.

In Elizondo, the last day of the Santioak 2026 festivities took place with the traditional zikiro‑jate meal. Over 580 residents gathered in the town square to share 406 kg of lamb, accompanied by a large water‑pistol battle to counter the heat. Chef Txomin Amorena announced it would be his final year preparing the dish after more than two decades of service.
