Traditional festivals across Spain

In late July 2026, several Spanish towns hosted their annual religious celebrations. On July 31, Gorbeia Natural Park held a high‑altitude mass and fair for the San Ignacio festival, drawing pilgrims from Bizkaia and Álava, while nearby Elizondo marked the final day of its Santioak festivities with a communal lamb meal and a water‑pistol battle. A few days later, the coastal towns of Candás in Asturias and Nigrán in Galicia opened their San Fiz patron‑saint festivals, featuring street lunches, sardine and octopus tastings, masses, processions, live music and evening verbenas. Across the Basque Country, Navarre, Asturias and Galicia, the events shared a common pattern of religious rites, local culinary traditions and community entertainment.

On August 2, Moaña in Galicia celebrated the 28th Festa do Mexillón, offering five tonnes of mussels, live music by the Banda de Música Airiños do Morrazo and a local women’s craft exhibition. Candás continued its Sardine Festival with vibrant street scenes, while Nigrán again hosted its San Fiz verbena with concerts, Mass, procession and octopus tasting. Monesterio in Extremadura held its annual Guarrito competition despite a heat wave, showcasing culinary heritage. In Castellón, a traditional dinner in the Marjalería neighbourhood brought together 350 residents for sardines and music. Molinicos in Castilla‑La Mancha launched the Música en los Rincones festival, and Albacete’s Casas Viejas festivities honored the SAMPO association’s work with oncology patients. Together, these religious and secular celebrations illustrate the continued vitality of regional festival customs throughout Spain in early August 2026.
