Gospić crimes: Miodrag Linta calls for justice for Serb victims
Miodrag Linta, president of the Alliance of Serbs in the Region, has called for continued efforts to uncover the truth regarding crimes committed against Serbs in Gospić 35 years ago. He stated that at least 130 Serbs were killed and approximately 250 were arrested and taken in an unknown direction during the events of October 1991.
Linta noted that searches continue for the remains of at least 70 victims. He described the violence as the culmination of systematic pressure and discrimination against Serbs following the rise of Franjo Tuđman’s regime in 1990. He also highlighted the destruction of a Serbian Orthodox church in Gospić in November 1991, which he characterized as an attempt to erase the historical and spiritual presence of the Serbian people in the area.
While several individuals have been convicted—including Tihomir Orešković (15 years), Mirko Norac (12 years), and Stjepan Grandić (10 years)—Linta emphasized that many members of Croatian military and police structures involved in the arrests and executions have not been held accountable.
