Gov.br platform security audit highlights risks for Brazilian businesses

An audit by the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) has highlighted operational risks associated with the Gov.br platform. As the platform centralizes over 4,600 federal digital services and serves more than 173 million users, it has become critical infrastructure for the private sector. Companies rely on Gov.br to access the Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) portal for essential tax and accounting obligations.

The TCU recommended improvements in facial biometrics, life verification, and multi-factor authentication methods to mitigate risks. Because businesses depend on these credentials for fiscal compliance, compromised identities or authentication failures can disrupt corporate administrative operations.

To enhance security, citizens can use the new National Identity Card (CIN) to upgrade their Gov.br accounts to the 'Gold' level, the platform's highest security tier. By using the CIN's QR code via the Gov.br app, users can provide a more reliable biometric and identity validation, which helps prevent fraud and grants access to more sensitive digital services.
