Government budget proposals show shifts in Paraguay and Chile

In Paraguay, the Ministry of Childhood and Adolescence (MINNA) has submitted a proposal to Congress for a G. 38,000 million budget increase for the 2027 fiscal year. Minister Walter Gutiérrez described the increase as “histórico,” noting it aims to strengthen protection services and the “Semillas del Futuro” early childhood program. The funds are intended to sustain Comprehensive Care Centers (CAI), cover operational costs, and support professional hiring. Additionally, the ministry is working on a $50 million investment with Itaipú to build and equip approximately 60 centers across 17 departments.

In Chile, the government's budget proposal shows a significant increase for the Communications Secretariat (Secom) within the General Secretariat of Government (Segegob). While the overall budget for Segegob is projected to see a real decrease of 2.75%, the Secom unit, led by Felipe “Yeti” Costabal, is slated for a substantial rise in resources. This unit is responsible for official government dissemination, media advisory, and digital narrative coordination.
