Governor Alfredo Cornejo of Mendoza Announces Legal Action Against Fake‑News Site
Mendoza Governor Alfredo Cornejo publicly reported the existence of a digital operation that he says was created to spread false and defamatory content about his administration. He identified the website InfoMDZ.com.ar, linked to the company Grupo Puma S.A.S., which uses a registered domain, active social‑media accounts and paid advertising to amplify the misinformation. Cornejo announced that his government will pursue legal and administrative measures to determine responsibility and halt the campaign, stressing that “freedom of expression is part of democratic life, but organized lies and deliberate disinformation are not.”
In the same communication, Cornejo also noted the province’s recent regulation of state land for mining activity, establishing clear criteria for the use of public property by mining projects.
The governor’s move signals a defensive stance against online disinformation targeting provincial officials.
