Governor Axel Kicillof rallies Buenos Aires and Southern Santa Fe Peronists, backs Cristina Kirchner

Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof met virtually with leaders of the southern Santa Fe peronist movement to discuss the impact of national policies on the interior, the role of provinces in federal governance, and coordinated political strategies. The meeting, advertised under the slogan “For a Santa Fe and an Argentina with a Future,” aimed to exchange diagnoses and proposals between the southern Santa Fe faction and the Buenos Aires administration.

At the same time, Kicillof publicly aligned himself with the hard‑line Kirchnerist camp, denouncing the recent conviction of former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as a“political persecution.” In a June 10, 2026 social‑media post, he framed the ruling as an “enormous infamy” and used it to mobilise support for the Peronist movement ahead of the 2027 presidential election, positioning himself as a potential candidate and seeking to consolidate the kirchnerista base.

Together, these actions underscore Kicillof’s bid to strengthen his political profile within the national Peronist coalition and to shape the federal debate ahead of upcoming elections.
