Governor Bobby Nasution aims to turn North Sumatra’s PRSU into a national trade fair
The 50th edition of the Pekan Raya Sumatera Utara (PRSU) marks the half‑century milestone of the annual regional festival. Governor Bobby Nasution has announced plans to have PRSU listed in Indonesia’s national event calendar, positioning it as a driver of culture, trade, investment and the creative economy.
PT Pembangunan Prasarana Sumatera Utara’s director Ferry Indra is tasked with turning the vision into practice. The fair this year hosts 33 pavilions from local regencies and cities plus one pavilion from a friendly foreign nation, with roughly 75 % of the content supplied by North Sumatra’s own UMKM, artists and creative‑industry participants. Support from the DPR’s Commission VII reinforces the push toward a nationally‑competitive trade fair.
Organisers acknowledge challenges such as ticket pricing, visitor services, parking and overall management, stressing the need for professional governance. The goal is to lay a five‑ to ten‑year foundation that sustains PRSU’s evolution from a traditional people’s fair into a recognized national trade showcase.
