North Sumatra PRSU fair ends, cultural wins, Rp50B impact

Overview

The 50th Pekan Raya Sumatera Utara (PRSU) opened in Medan on 3 July 2026 and ran until 2 August under the “Harmoni Emas” theme. The exhibition featured 33 regional pavilions, a friendly‑nation pavilion, a stamp‑collection game, concerts, cultural performances and food stalls. Visitors sampled coffee from Dairi and Asahan, tried Malaysian street food at the Penang pavilion, and bought pare chips and banana‑chip products announced at Tebing Tinggi. Free‑ticket days kept attendance accessible; by 25 July more than 20,000 people had visited, with a target of 300,000. The provincial agriculture department used the venue to train small farmers on KUB and ELBA egg‑laying chickens, and entrepreneur Syahri Ramadhani YS showcased a banana‑peel cracker snack.

The fair closed on 2 August after a month of performances and competitions. South Tapanuli Regency won first place in the Cultural Stage Performance category, followed by South Nias and Samosir. Awards were also presented in dance, student bands, short‑film and creative gymnastics. Organisers reported a total of 161,309 visitors and about 3,000 performers, 75 % of whom were local. Economic activity generated by the event was estimated at roughly Rp 50 billion. Vice Governor Surya urged that the momentum be turned into sustained investment and improved public services, while PT Pembangunan Prasarana Sumatera Utara director Ferry Indra highlighted the shift toward higher‑quality delivery and the fair’s role in promoting regional talent. The PRSU continues to serve as a showcase for North Sumatra’s cultural heritage, investment potential and creative‑industry growth.
