Sheinbaum and Gómez tout security cuts, water project in State of Mexico
President Claudia Sheinbaum and State Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez jointly highlighted a series of security and infrastructure initiatives in the State of Mexico. At the 8th International Congress of Security and Proximity Social in Nezahualcóyotl, they reported that more than 253,000 security operations have been carried out, resulting in a 36 % drop in intentional homicides, a 53 % decline in vehicle theft, the exchange of over 2,700 firearms, 1,255 Peace Jornadas attended by more than 400,000 people and the installation of 100 Peace and Civic‑Justice Councils.
The joint visit also included a supervision of the Presa Lago de Guadalupe water‑capture project, which involves an investment of 5.53 billion pesos to increase potable water supply to municipalities such as Cuautitlán Izcalli, Teoloyucan, Nezahualcóyotl, La Paz and Ecatepec. Security officials noted that after 500 days of the Mando Unificado Zona Oriente, extortion fell 43 % and robbery of businesses fell 39 % across 15 municipalities, with additional reductions in public‑transport and cargo‑theft crimes.
These coordinated actions illustrate the administration’s focus on improving public safety and essential services for the roughly 17 million residents of the State of Mexico.
