Governor Jenniffer González Colón tackles water shortage and corrections shake‑up in Puerto Rico
Governor Jenniffer González Colón said the Puerto Rico Water Authority (AAA) failed to inform the public about difficulties divers opening the Carraízo reservoir gates, which delayed water service restoration for San Juan, Trujillo Alto, Carolina and Canóvanas. She warned that the drought has lowered reservoir levels faster than expected and that the government may need to advance water‑rationing measures.
The governor also announced the resignation of Corrections and Rehabilitation Secretary Francisco Quiñones Rivera, describing his continued tenure as “unsustainable” amid numerous complaints. She appointed attorney Julie O. Gómez as his successor and said a new bidding process will be launched to replace the prison‑health provider.
