Oyo APC urges Governor Makinde to explain over 200 Amotekun Corps deaths

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State condemned Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent statement that more than 200 members of the Western Nigeria security network, the Amotekun Corps, had been lost while on active duty. The governor made the claim during a sympathy visit to Oriire Local Government Area, where suspected bandits killed two people and abducted dozens of schoolchildren, but provided no further details about the circumstances of the casualties.

The Oyo APC described the revelation as “saddening, alarming and unacceptable,” accusing the governor of insensitivity and a lack of empathy for the families of the fallen security personnel. The party called for a full explanation, better protection for corps members, involvement of security experts, proper training and welfare packages, and an end to the deployment of Amotekun officers to private or politically linked properties.
