Governor Maru Campos sparks press clash and urges opposition parties to apologize in Chihuahua

Governor Maru Campos of Chihuahua confronted an adviser during a press conference on 4 July 2026 after the staffer attempted to interrupt her remarks, asking, “Do you want to give the conference?” The exchange created visible tension but the briefing continued.

In a later interview, Campos said the National Action Party (PAN) and other opposition groups should apologize to the public for past failures, while praising the PAN’s achievements in several states. She also criticized the ruling Morena party for using violent rhetoric and “shouting” in politics. The comments come as the state prepares for the 2027 gubernatorial election, where Campos highlighted the presence of viable opposition options.

The incidents underline internal tensions within the Chihuahua administration and the governor’s positioning ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
