Governor Mateus Simões Inspects Near-Complete UBS São José in Capitão Andrade

On 19 June, Minas Gerais Governor Mateus Simões visited the new Unidade Básica de Saúde (UBS) São José in the Capitão Andrade neighbourhood of the Vale do Rio Doce. The facility is about 90 % finished, with an opening planned for September, and the project has cost roughly R$ 2 million. The UBS will serve roughly 3,000 residents and includes a reception area, meeting room, vaccination hall, six medical consult rooms, two dental offices, a curative room, observation ward, sterilisation area, and accessible sanitary facilities, as well as spaces for community health agents. The governor noted the state is close to delivering 300 UBS centres, with more than 100 still under construction, aiming to expand primary‑care coverage across Minas Gerais. Local health worker Valdirene Oliveira said the new unit will greatly reduce travel for neighbourhood residents, improving access to preventive and chronic‑care services.
