Governor Mikie Sherrill Announces $165 Million Transportation Aid and Opens Environmental Awards Nominations in New J​er

Governor Mikie Sherrill announced a $165 million Fiscal Year 2027 County Aid program for New Jersey’s 21 counties to fund road, bridge and other transportation infrastructure improvements. The funding, drawn from the state Transportation Trust Fund, allocates the largest share to Bergen County ($14,040,563) and includes specific amounts for Morris, Sussex, Hunterdon and Warren counties. Sherrill said the investment will keep roads safe and support economic growth, while NJDOT Commissioner Priya Jain emphasized that the aid will help maintain local networks without raising local taxes.

The Sherrill administration also opened nominations for the 27th Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards, the state’s premier environmental recognition program administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Acting Commissioner Ed Potosnak highlighted the awards’ focus on innovative solutions that protect public health and natural resources. New categories this year include Energy Affordability and Innovation, and Flooding and Climate Resilience, with nominations due by Aug. 28.
