New Jersey transportation aid rollout

Governor Mikie Sherrill announced a $165 million Fiscal Year 2027 County Aid program to fund road, bridge and other transportation projects across New Jersey’s 21 counties. The money, drawn from the state Transportation Trust Fund, was allocated with the largest share to Bergen County and included specific amounts for several other counties. The aid is intended to keep roads safe, support economic growth and avoid raising local taxes.

Alongside the funding announcement, the administration opened nominations for the 27th Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards, adding new categories such as Energy Affordability and Innovation, and Flooding and Climate Resilience.

A follow‑up release clarified that the aid package was increased by $15 million after the Trust Fund’s five‑year renewal in March 2024. Allocations are based on population and road mileage, with counties required to submit eligible projects by 1 December and to receive funds by 31 July. Transportation officials emphasized the goal of maintaining a safe, reliable, and modern statewide network without additional tax burdens.
