Pernambuco's 56th Missa do Vaqueiro draws governor, candidates

The 56th Missa do Vaqueiro took place on 26 July 2026 at Parque Estadual João Câncio in Serrita, Pernambuco. The celebration, recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of the state, honors the memory of Raimundo Jacó, a vaqueiro who died in 1954. The state government allocated R$ 2 million through the Fundação Padre João Câncio for the event and invested R$ 2.5 million to re‑qualify the park’s infrastructure.

A security operation costing R$ 86.4 thousand deployed about 480 police, military and fire personnel. Governor Raquel Lyra and Vice‑Governor Priscila Krause attended, alongside political figures such as Marília Arraes, João Campos, Humberto Costa and others. Arraes used the occasion to endorse President Luiz Inácio Lula’s re‑election. The event combined religious, cultural and political dimensions, highlighting the state’s commitment to preserving tradition while supporting local development.
