Pernambuco development agenda under Lyra expands

Overview

June 2026 saw Governor Raquel Lyra’s administration accelerate a multi‑sector development programme across Pernambuco. New kindergartens opened in Ibirajuba, Tuparetama, Serra Talhada and a third creche was approved for Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde (R$ 7 million), while Serra Talhada projects invested R$ 11.1 million for over 600 early‑education places. Health and social services were bolstered by a mobile dental unit sent to Altinho and a new women’s reference centre in Buíque. In Serra Talhada, a desalination unit for the Xukuru community and sports‑court upgrades at the Indigenous School Ororubá were finished. On 28 July 2026 Lyra inaugurated a R$ 92.4 million urban slope‑stabilisation project in Jardim Monte Verde, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, protecting about 5 000 residents and 23 000 people in the wider metro area. Later in June the State Drug Policy Plan (Pepod) was launched, and in late July Lyra toured Sertão works, inspecting new creches, maternity hospital and scientific‑police complex. The 56th Missa do Vaqueiro took place on 26 July 2026 in Serrita; Lyra attended alongside Vice‑Governor Krause and other senior politicians. A security operation costing R$ 86.4 thousand deployed about 480 police, military and rescue personnel, while the state allocated R$ 2 million to fund the ceremony and R$ 2.5 million for park‑infrastructure upgrades. The event was used by political leaders, including Marília Arraes, to endorse President Lula’s re‑election, highlighting the blend of cultural heritage and political support in Pernambuco.
