Goya, Argentina Declares World Breastfeeding Week of Municipal Interest

The Goya City Council officially declared the World Breastfeeding Week (August 1‑7) a matter of municipal interest, endorsing a series of community activities. Local businesses have begun displaying the lilac colour, the symbol of empathy and support, under the slogan “Comercio amigo de la lactancia,” a program backed by the municipal Secretariat of Industry and Commerce.

The Cathedral will be illuminated in lilac on Friday to raise awareness, and the regional hospital will host an open talk for pregnant women and nursing mothers. The week will conclude on Sunday, August 9, with an open‑air gathering in Plaza Italia where information and experiences are shared. The initiative is coordinated among the Regional Hospital, the Pediatric Hospital and other health institutions, with the municipal government’s support. Puericulturist Cecilia Zoloaga highlighted the importance of community, family and professional backing throughout pregnancy, postpartum and early childhood development.

The campaign aims to strengthen actions that sustain breastfeeding during the first six months, emphasizing emotional support and collaboration among obstetricians, gynecologists and pediatricians.
