Goyang City holds community forums to address local issues

Goyang Special City Mayor Min Kyung-sun held the ‘2026 Open Resident Communication Empathy Talk’ sessions in several districts, including Haengsin 1 and 3-dong, Jugyo-dong, and Madu 1-dong, to discuss local grievances and development plans.

In Haengsin-dong, residents raised concerns regarding sewage pipe maintenance, pedestrian environment improvements, and park renovations. The city noted that securing national and provincial funds will be critical for a sewage project estimated at approximately 25 billion won. In Jugyo-dong, discussions focused on parking shortages and traffic congestion caused by the Wondang District 1 redevelopment project, as well as requests to ease overlapping regulations from military and greenbelt zones.

In Madu 1-dong, residents requested safety measures near the National Cancer Center, pest control due to rat sightings, and the renovation of aging pedestrian facilities such as sidewalks and underground passages. Mayor Min emphasized the need to foster future industries—including aerospace, drones, UAM, bio-health, and cultural content—to drive sustainable growth and create high-quality jobs despite the city’s low financial independence.
