Goyang City launches official autonomous bus service

Goyang Special City has officially commenced the operation of its autonomous bus service, named ‘Dallil Goyang’. Following a pilot period that began in June, the service now operates three distinct routes: two daytime circular routes covering approximately 4km and 6km, and one nighttime route spanning roughly 11km.

The buses utilize Level 3 conditional automation, employing cameras, LiDAR, and radar to detect surroundings and navigate using high-definition maps. To ensure passenger safety, safety personnel are stationed on board to manage unexpected situations, and vehicle status is monitored via a city control system.

Mayor Min Kyung-seon emphasized that citizen safety remains the highest priority, noting that the city will implement strict vehicle management and emergency response protocols. The city aims to use the data collected from these operations to improve service quality and eventually apply for designation as a national autonomous driving demonstration city, which could facilitate the attraction of related industries and job creation.
