Goyang City to remodel Goyang Stadium for 15 billion KRW

Goyang City has announced a comprehensive remodeling plan for the Goyang Stadium, which has been in operation for over 20 years. The project aims to transform the multi-purpose venue into a complex cultural space that integrates sports, large-scale performances, and tourism.

To support this transition, the city and the Goyang City Management Corporation plan to secure approximately 15 billion KRW in funding through phased budget allocations starting in 2027. The renovation will target aging spectator seats, restrooms, concrete structures, and external finishing materials to improve safety, convenience, and operational efficiency for large crowds.

As a specific initial step, the city secured 2 billion KRW in national funds from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to renovate 56 restrooms, with an additional 2 billion KRW provided by the city. The stadium, which opened in 2003, has recently seen increased utility as a major outdoor venue for top-tier international and domestic musical artists.

Mayor Min Kyung-sun stated that the stadium serves as a core pillar alongside the K-Culture Valley Arena and KINTEX to complete the city as a cultural content hub. The city intends to leverage large-scale performances to drive tourism and local economic growth.
