Goyang Mayor requests railway expansion and industrial support
Goyang Mayor Min Kyung-sun has initiated a series of meetings with central government officials to address critical regional issues, focusing on transportation infrastructure and economic self-sufficiency.
In discussions with the Metropolitan Transport Commission and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Mayor requested the inclusion of several key railway projects in national plans. These include the extension of the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line to Ilsan and the extension of the Goyang-Sinsa Line to the Sinwon area. Additionally, the city is seeking to rectify wage disparities for bus drivers within the semi-public bus system's Zone 1.
To transition Goyang from a residential suburb to a self-sufficient city, the Mayor also met with officials to request the immediate allocation of industrial land quotas and amendments to the Seoul Metropolitan Area Readjustment Planning Act. Other key proposals include the incorporation of Beolmal Village into the Changneung District and the relocation of the Korea Racing Authority's horse racing facilities to Goyang to stimulate the local economy.
