Goyang Mayor seeks industrial land and transport expansion

Goyang Mayor Min Kyung-sun is actively meeting with central government officials to transform Goyang City into a self-sufficient urban center. During a recent meeting with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Min submitted a policy proposal requesting government support to expand the city's industrial base and improve its regional transportation network.

Key requests include the immediate allocation of 66,000 square meters of industrial land within the Changneung District and amendments to the Seoul Metropolitan Area Readjustment Planning Act. Min emphasized that while Goyang has grown to a population of 1.07 million through national public housing projects, it lacks sufficient industrial facilities and jobs due to regulatory constraints.

To foster future industries such as aerospace, urban air mobility (UAM), and bio-medical sectors, the city plans to leverage local academic and medical infrastructure. Additionally, Min proposed extending the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line to the Siksa District to address transportation shortages in rapidly growing residential areas.
