Goyang Special City accelerates plans for new city hall construction

Goyang Special City is accelerating administrative procedures to construct a new city hall in Jugyo-dong, aiming to break ground in the first half of 2028. Researchers from the Local Investment Analysis Center (LOMAC) recently conducted a field inspection of the proposed site and the current city hall facilities to assess aging infrastructure and space shortages.

The project has faced delays in the past, but Mayor Min Kyung-sun has expressed a strong commitment to normalizing the construction process. The city plans to respond actively to the ongoing feasibility re-investigation and proceed with Gyeonggi Province's investment review once results are available.

Financial management remains a significant challenge. The estimated project cost has risen to approximately 410.8 billion won, up from an original estimate of 295.1 billion won. With current funds totaling 229.4 billion won, the city faces a deficit of roughly 181.4 billion won. The administration intends to develop a multi-year financing plan and explore ways to reduce costs through design refinements.
