GPRTU requests delay of TRAFFITECH-GH implementation until 2027
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has requested that police delay the full implementation of the TRAFFITECH-GH system until 2027. While the system is currently scheduled for a November 1 rollout, the union argues that more time is required for public education, driver sensitization, and the establishment of necessary enforcement infrastructure.
Samuel Amoah, the GPRTU Deputy Public Relations Officer, noted that while the technology could improve road discipline and reduce corruption between motorists and police, there are significant concerns regarding readiness. Amoah highlighted that some police personnel may not yet fully understand how to operate the system and emphasized the need for officers to be equipped with devices capable of verifying driver licenses and vehicle documents.
The union urged authorities to prioritize road safety and compliance over revenue generation from traffic offenses, suggesting that the rollout be pushed back to ensure all stakeholders are adequately prepared.
