Graham Platner removed from Labor Day rally speaking schedule

Graham Platner, the former Democratic Senate nominee in Maine, has been removed from the schedule for a Labor Day rally in Ellsworth. The decision follows intense media scrutiny and safety concerns regarding his planned speech.

Platner ended his campaign against Republican Senator Susan Collins in July following allegations of sexual assault made by a former girlfriend. He has denied these allegations. Organizers of the rally, including the progressive group Hancock County Activists, stated that the planned speech was drawing excessive negative media attention. Instead of speaking, Platner is expected to lead a veterans’ march following the event.

Platner’s political rise was marked by a campaign focused on working-class issues, but his candidacy was frequently impacted by various controversies, including reports of sexually explicit text messages and the discovery of a tattoo featuring a Nazi symbol, which he claimed he did not realize was associated with Nazism.
