Gramado Film Festival opens with ‘Antártida’ and competitive screenings

The 54th Gramado Film Festival has commenced, featuring a diverse lineup of Brazilian cinema. The event opened with a non-competitive screening of ‘Antártida’, a psychological thriller directed by Bruno Safadi. The film, a production from Estúdios Globo, uses virtual production technology to depict a Brazilian research station in Antarctica, where a criminal investigation ensues following an act of violence against a researcher.

As the festival enters its competitive phase, the film ‘Feito Pipa’, directed by Allan Deberton, has also drawn significant attention. The drama follows a young boy in Ceará navigating gender expression and family dynamics. Meanwhile, the festival includes various short film competitions and the ‘Conexões Gramado Film Market’, which facilitates networking between industry professionals and public managers.

Several prominent actors, including Lázaro Ramos, Marina Ruy Barbosa, and Leandra Leal, have participated in the festivities, with some receiving honors such as marks on the festival’s Walk of Fame. Actor Marcos Caruso was also recognized with the ‘Troféu Cidade de Gramado’ for his career contributions.
