Gramado Film Festival highlights themes of violence against women

The 54th Gramado Film Festival has highlighted themes of violence against women across various film selections. The festival opened with the film ‘Antártida’, directed by Bruno Safadi, which features Marina Ruy Barbosa as a researcher named Inês who experiences sexual abuse at a research base.

Other notable works in the festival include ‘Pele de Rinoceronte’ by Marcello Ludwig Maia, which dramatizes the historic 1970s murder of Ângela Diniz to explore the evolution of the feminicide debate in Brazil. The programming reflects a multifaceted cinematic approach to issues such as sexual violence, domestic control, and emotional dependency.
