Gran Hotel Pucón sale advances as mayor announces potential buyer

Mayor Sebastián Álvarez of Pucón launched the "Month of the Hot Springs" and disclosed that the historic Gran Hotel Pucón is in an advanced stage of sale. The 12,500‑square‑metre, 153‑room property, originally opened by the State Railways in the 1930s, is now owned by Inmobiliaria La Península after the bankruptcy reorganization of the casino operator Enjoy. The sale is being managed by real‑estate services firm CBRE, and a local investor group is reported to be preparing a major upgrade of the hotel’s facilities and standards.

Álvarez also addressed other local development issues, rejecting claims about a proposed Chinese‑owned mall and saying he felt "extorted" during that process. The potential hotel transaction is seen as a key factor for Pucón’s tourism sector.

The mayor’s remarks were made during a ceremony marking the start of the thermal‑spa promotion month, which runs through August.
