Gran Sasso: Two hikers rescued by helicopter from Corno Grande
Two hikers were rescued by helicopter from the Corno Grande peak in the Gran Sasso massif due to dangerous weather conditions. The incident occurred on the afternoon of October 13.
The hikers became trapped by ice patches and high winds, making it impossible to continue or return safely. The Pescara Fire Department deployed the Drago 170 helicopter for the rescue. Due to strong winds, the crew had to lighten the aircraft by reducing fuel and unloading non-essential equipment to safely approach the rock face.
Rescuers were lowered via winch to secure the hikers and bring them aboard. Both individuals were successfully recovered and were uninjured despite the technical complexity of the operation.
