Granada and Cuenca provinces announce funding for 2026 sports events
The Provincial Council of Granada approved a €360,000 competitive grant programme to support the organisation of large sports events across the province in 2026. The funding, presented by Sports Deputy Eric Escobedo, targets federations, local sports companies and municipalities, aiming to stimulate economic activity, tourism and the province’s image through national and international competitions.
In the neighbouring province of Cuenca, the Provincial Council launched a €100,000 aid line for municipalities and local entities to finance the 2026 Provincial Sports Circuits. Sports Deputy Abel Fresneda highlighted that more than 13,000 athletes have already taken part in the circuits this year, which include popular races, mountain biking, duathlon, triathlon, padel and traditional games. Grants of up to €3,000 per event will help cover organisational costs and further expand participation.
Both initiatives are part of a broader effort by Spanish provincial authorities to use sport as a catalyst for regional development and community engagement.
