Cuenca provincial sports subsidies 2026

Entities: Abel Fresneda · Diputación Provincial de Cuenca · Province of Granada · Eric Escobedo · Diputación Provincial de Ciudad Real

Overview

In late July 2026 the Diputación Provincial de Cuenca confirmed a provisional resolution approving subsidies for 28 clubs that organise races, mountain runs, MTB, duathlon, triathlon and orienteering events, and announced a €135,000 grant programme to finance competitions, training courses, school sport and outdoor activities.

On 5 August the council added a €100,000 aid line for municipalities and local entities to support the 2026 Provincial Sports Circuits. Grants of up to €3,000 per event will help cover organisational costs for races, mountain biking, duathlon, triathlon, padel and traditional games. Deputy Abel Fresneda highlighted that more than 13,000 athletes have already taken part in the circuits this year, and the new funding is intended to broaden participation and reinforce sport’s role in regional development.

The August announcement was made alongside a €360,000 grant programme in neighbouring Granada, illustrating a broader Spanish provincial strategy to use sport as a catalyst for economic activity, tourism and community cohesion.
