Granada earthquake relief: Junta de Andalucía announces 46.2 million euro aid package
The Junta de Andalucía has announced a 46.2 million euro aid package to address the consequences of a seismic series that has affected the province of Granada since mid-August. President Juanma Moreno met with mayors from 28 affected municipalities to coordinate relief efforts.
The funding is distributed across several key areas: 15 million euros for the fourth phase of the Santa Adela Plan, 10.2 million euros for health centers and sanitary infrastructure, seven million euros for municipal infrastructure repairs, and eight million euros to ensure the safety of buildings and properties. Additionally, four million euros are dedicated to repairing damage at the Alhambra, and 160,000 euros are allocated to social services and judicial infrastructure.
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) reports that the Alhendín seismic series has recorded 1,693 tremors, though the intensity and frequency have shown a downward trend, with most movements remaining below magnitude 2. The regional government has also formally requested that the Spanish Government declare the area a seriously affected zone to secure further assistance.
