Granada earthquake zones to be declared civil protection emergencies

The Spanish government will declare the municipalities affected by the recent seismic series in Granada as a zone gravely affected by a civil protection emergency. This announcement was made by First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Commerce, and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, following a meeting with 18 mayors from the capital and areas most impacted by the Alhendín seismic activity.

The Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros (CCS) has already received approximately 27,500 indemnity requests, with 95% relating to homes or homeowner associations. Officials estimate that the total number of requests could reach 60,000 as the situation stabilizes, with the CCS receiving roughly 2,000 new applications daily.

The estimated cost for indemnities and aid for these 60,000 requests is expected to exceed 100 million euros. Current damage estimates have already reached significant levels, with a large portion of claims concentrated in the metropolitan area.
