Spain: Trials proceed for sexual abuse and gender-based violence cases

Several legal proceedings regarding sexual offenses and gender-based violence are underway in Spain. In Málaga, a jury trial has commenced for the partner of Dana Leonte, accused of her 2019 disappearance and murder in Arenas. The prosecution is seeking 17 years in prison for homicide and crimes against moral integrity, while the victim's family is requesting 20 years for murder, citing gender-based discrimination.

In Alicante, the prosecution is seeking 55 years of prison for a judo instructor and gym owner in Elche, accused of sexually abusing several minors between 2008 and 2019. Additionally, a trial is scheduled for a man from Guadalajara accused of offering money to two teenage sisters in exchange for pornographic images and videos.

In Albacete, a trial is resuming against a seasonal worker accused of continuous sexual aggression and kidnapping of a fellow worker during the summer of 2024.
