Granada receives 2.35 million euros to combat depopulation
The Spanish Government has allocated more than 2.35 million euros to ten projects in the province of Granada aimed at combating depopulation. These initiatives, selected by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco), are part of a larger national program involving 189 projects and a total budget of 40 million euros.
The funded projects are driven by the Provincial Council of Granada, four associations of municipalities (mancomunidades), and five local town councils. Key initiatives include the 'Granada Local Energy Offices Network' supported by the Provincial Council, and the 'WADI-Connect' pilot project for demand-responsive rural mobility in the Comarca de Guadix.
Other participating entities include the associations of Marquesado del Zenete, Costa Tropical de Granada, and Comarca de Huéscar, alongside the municipalities of Cuevas del Campo, Moclín, Játar, Vélez de Benaudalla, and Fonelas. The program seeks to address demographic challenges by creating new economic and social opportunities and fostering territorial transformation.
