Granada seismic activity reaches 1,430 earthquakes

The Alhendín seismic series in the province of Granada has recorded a total of 1,430 earthquakes since activity began on August 14. According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the population has felt 122 of these movements.

Most of the tremors have been of magnitude 2 or lower, though 12 events have reached or exceeded magnitude 3. The most significant moments included two earthquakes of magnitude 4.8 on August 15 and 18. These major events were felt in over 500 locations, ranging from central and eastern Andalusia to the Murcia Region, southern Castilla-La Mancha, and the Community of Madrid.

On the morning of September 1, six additional low-magnitude earthquakes were recorded in the Granada metropolitan area, with magnitudes ranging between 0.6 and 1.1 mbLg. These recent tremors were not reported to have been felt by the population.
