Granadero Baigorria: Pregnant woman dies after partner sets her on fire

Talia Liliana Baduna, a 29-year-old woman, died on Wednesday night at the Eva Perón Hospital in Granadero Baigorria after suffering severe burns. The attack occurred on October 12, when her partner, Maximiliano Castagnino, allegedly doused her face, chest, and arms with ethyl alcohol and set her on fire.

At the time of the attack, Baduna was 34 weeks pregnant. Due to the severity of her injuries, medical professionals performed an emergency cesarean section, and her son was moved to the neonatology unit for care. Baduna had been receiving treatment in intensive care for ten days and remained on a ventilator until her death.

Castagnino, 36, is currently in preventive detention. While he was initially charged with attempted qualified homicide, the legal classification of the case has been upgraded to femicide following the victim's death. Prosecutors noted that the incident occurred within a context of gender-based violence that had persisted for at least two years during the couple's cohabitation.
