Fatal alcohol-based burn attacks in Argentina

Overview

In late September 2026, a 34-year-old man died in Orán after being allegedly doused with alcohol and set on fire following a dispute. A 29-year-old woman was taken into custody, and authorities planned to expand homicide charges following the victim's death.

In October 2026, a separate fatal incident occurred in Granadero Baigorria. Talia Liliana Baduna, a 29-year-old woman who was 34 weeks pregnant, died from severe burns after her partner, Maximiliano Castagnino, allegedly set her on fire with ethyl alcohol. Following her death, the legal classification of the case was upgraded to femicide. Prosecutors indicated the attack took place within a context of gender-based violence that had persisted for at least two years.
