Grand Yoff drug network busted: 390 kg of illicit medicines seized in Dakar

Police from the Grand Yoff district in Dakar, Senegal, dismantled a network that was illegally trafficking and selling pharmaceutical products on the market. In the operation, six suspects were taken into custody and presented to the prosecutor. Officers seized roughly 390 kilograms of medicines, including large quantities of antibiotics such as amoxicillin, corticosteroids, psychotropic drugs and over‑the‑counter analgesics, as well as appetite‑stimulating and weight‑gain products that are normally regulated.

The arrested individuals face charges of illegal practice of pharmacy, trafficking and distribution of falsified or substandard health products, and endangering lives. The investigation was launched after reports of a surge in clandestine drug sales in the Grand Yoff market, prompting discreet surveillance that pinpointed the illegal stalls before the raid.
