Grand Yoff Police arrest two suspects for violent theft and weapons possession

In the early hours of October 18-19, 2026, the Grand Yoff district police in Dakar, Senegal, arrested two individuals following separate operations between the Patte d’Oie and HLM Grand Yoff areas.

The first arrest occurred near the Patte d’Oie market, an area noted for the illegal resale of electronics. Police intercepted a repeat offender attempting to sell three mobile phones—two iPhones and one Redmi—to a suspected fence who managed to flee. Technical analysis of the devices allowed officers to identify and return the phones to their rightful owner, who had been burglarized in the Parcelles Assainies district.

The second arrest took place near the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route in HLM Grand Yoff. A motorcyclist, appearing intoxicated, attempted to evade a patrol before crashing. Upon inspection, officers discovered a machete concealed in his clothing. The suspect, also known to judicial services, was suspected of intending to commit public assaults. Both individuals have been taken into custody as investigations continue.
