Grand-Yoff: Suspect arrested after violent machete attack
A 30-year-old man, identified as A. Maréna and nicknamed ‘Borom Darou’, has been arrested following a violent machete attack in the Léona neighborhood of Grand-Yoff. The incident occurred on September 5 around 8:00 PM during an altercation.
The victim, 26-year-old mechanic A. Konaté, sustained serious injuries to his head and throat after being struck twice with a machete. He was rushed to Idrissa Pouye Hospital, where his condition stabilized after 48 hours of medical care.
Following several days of investigation by the Grand-Yoff Research Brigade, Maréna was apprehended after initially fleeing the scene. During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to the attack, stating he was responding to insults. He admitted his reaction was excessive, noting the use of a machete and broken glass. Maréna is facing charges of attempted murder and is reportedly known to security services for similar past incidents.
