Grande Nabois: German climber dies in 50-meter fall
A 35-year-old German mountaineer died on Sunday, October 18, following a fall of over 50 meters on the north face of Grande Nabois in the Julian Alps. The accident occurred around 2:30 PM while the woman was traversing the Cengia dei Camosci, a technical climbing route.
According to preliminary reports, the climber was trekking with an Austrian companion. Although both were described as experienced and well-prepared for the challenging itinerary, they were not roped together. The tragedy occurred after they had just passed a difficult section, when a handhold reportedly gave way, causing the woman to lose her grip and fall.
Emergency response teams, including the Friuli Venezia Giulia Alpine and Speleological Rescue from the Cave del Predil station, the Guardia di Finanza Alpine Rescue, and regional air rescue, attended the scene. After receiving authorization from the magistrate, the air rescue crew recovered the body, concluding operations around 5:30 PM.
