Granja Tres Arroyos' La China plant shut, workers protest in Entre Ríos

Granja Tres Arroyos is confronting a severe financial crisis at its La China poultry plant in Concepción del Uruguay, Entre Ríos. The company attributes the strain to the loss of international markets caused by avian‑flu concerns and has entered a preventive crisis process while restructuring its finances. After exhausting dialogue with unions, it announced an indefinite shutdown of the facility.

Provincial authorities, including Governor Rogelio Frigerio and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, met with company representatives to explore a possible phased reopening. An audience is scheduled for the coming Monday in Paraná to discuss concrete proposals.

Meanwhile, around a thousand plant workers staged a protest on National Route 14, near the Haimovich access point. Demonstrators burned tires, partially blocked a lane, and demanded payment of overdue salaries for the second half of April and May, as well as assurance of social‑security coverage. The rally was organized independently of the sector’s unions. The outcome of the upcoming labour‑ministry meeting is seen as decisive for the plant’s future and the livelihood of its employees.
