Granja Tres Arroyos labor, debt and plant shutdowns
Entities: Granja Tres Arroyos · Rubén Lafuente · Daniel Leo · De Grazia family · Joaquín De Grazia
Overview
Since mid‑May 2026, Granja Tres Arroyos has faced escalating labor disputes and a $350 M debt burden. Workers at the La China plant in Concepción del Uruguay stopped production over unpaid wages, prompting an indefinite shutdown, protests and provincial aid. Subsequent closures hit the Cresta Roja plant, the Río Cuarto plant and the Pilar plant, leaving hundreds of employees without pay and leading to bankruptcy petitions.
By early August the crisis now involves five facilities across Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos and Córdoba. The Pinazo plant in Pilar halted all work for August; Wade II in Esteban Echeverría faces stoppages, Wade I in Ezeiza operates at reduced capacity, La China remains closed, and the Avex plant in Río Cuarto extended its shutdown to a full month, affecting roughly 350 workers. The company continues negotiations on a $350.9 million restructuring that could trim up to 75 % of its capital, spread repayments over seven years and require the sale of at least five non‑strategic assets. Production has fallen from a historic 760,000 birds per day to about 200,000, with a target to reach over 400,000 within nine months. U.S. firm Tyson Foods holds a 34 % stake, and President Joaquín De Grazia has voiced support for the reforms despite ongoing labor unrest.
