Mass layoffs hit poultry and mining sectors in Argentina

Argentina is facing significant labor unrest as multiple companies implement mass layoffs across various sectors.

Granja Tres Arroyos, a major poultry company, has executed large-scale dismissals affecting hundreds of workers. In the province of Buenos Aires, approximately 1,000 employees were laid off across plants in Capitán Sarmiento, El Jagüel, and Pilar. The company cited critical financial and productive conditions. Additionally, the company’s La China plant in Concepción del Uruguay has seen hundreds of workers dismissed amid reports of unpaid wages and production halts. Labor unions have raised concerns regarding the legality of these dismissals and the company's failure to meet salary obligations.

In the mining sector, Galasur S.A. dismissed 19 workers at its quarry in Olavarría. The company attributed the decision to a sharp decline in sales and a slowdown in public works and construction, which has severely impacted the non-metallic mining industry.

Other localized labor disputes include the dismissal of 19 employees at the Galasur quarry in Sierra Chica, leading to a total halt in operations, and a legal ruling in Jacobacci involving a pig farm where workers successfully sued for unpaid wages and poor working conditions.
