Grape harvests in Republika Srpska and Croatia face drought

Grape harvests in southern Republika Srpska and Poreč are reaching their final stages, with producers reporting earlier ripening due to intense heat and drought conditions.

In southern Republika Srpska, wine grape varieties have matured earlier than in previous years. While a strong dry period challenged vegetation—particularly for white varieties like Žilavka—winemakers note that the lack of plant diseases has helped maintain quality. Some producers report that yields and quality are higher than last year, despite the need for increased irrigation to combat high temperatures.

Similarly, in Poreč, Croatia, the Institute for Agriculture and Tourism is concluding its harvest. Although drought has reduced yields in some areas, the health and quality of the grapes remain high. White varieties have largely been collected, with black varieties following. Early ripening has been observed across several varieties, with some reaching maturity a week earlier than average.
